With the start of a new season comes new trends. This is the ideal time of year to add new Type 2 trends to your style. After all, trends embody the energy of spring; they’re refreshing, vibrant, and full of new life. I really enjoyed diving into the trends last Fall, and I’m so excited to share the Spring/Summer trends for this year!
So what exactly are we seeing in the fashion world this spring? Lots of styles with preppy and feminine influences.
Clean lines, bold florals, the color white, and pearls have this season’s trends leading with Type 4 energy with nods to Type 1 and Type 2 with colorful fun and feminine flare.
I’m Anne, your Type 2 Expert, and I’m here to reassure you that ALL Types can wear these trends. We just have to know what to look for, and what to avoid. I’m so excited to show you how to take these popular trends and make them work for Type 2.
A quick note: trends naturally lean toward a specific Type or a secondary Type—but every Type can make them work!
That’s what we’ll be doing here. I’ll teach you about each trend, then tell you what to do to make it Type 1, along with some considerations for each secondary Type! And of course, I’ll show you photos of every trend. (Bonus—you can click on the image to shop!)
After reading this post, you’ll be able to create trendy spring and summer outfits true to you.
Think of this as guidance, and then you get to go and be the expression!
Remember—it’s all about developing a style that’s true to you, and not just copying a cookie-cutter style to look like everyone else. Wear the trend for you, not for the sake of the trend!
So let’s go over the new trends and discuss how to make them work for our Type 2 nature.
1. Preppy
This season, we’re seeing a lighter, more casual approach to the Tailored Look from Fall 2023 Style School. The best way to capture this is with that classic “prep school” look: polo shirts, cable-knit sweaters, chino pants, crisp collars, dickes collars, pleated skirts, sweater vests, blazers, cardigans, and striped button-downs. For patterns, you can add gingham, houndstooth, and argyle. Think of preppy style as a school-inspired aesthetic with “play it cool” details. You’ll look put-together, but playful too!
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
At first glance, this trend does not favor Type 2. Clean, tidy lines, stiffer fabrications, and tight knits are more structured than Type 2 flowing movement. So to make this work you’ll want to choose softer fabrications as a backdrop to the straight and classic lines. For example, choose a soft knit polo with a relaxed collar instead of a tight knit polo shirt; or a plush cardigan as opposed to a structured blazer.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1, you’ll enjoy the crisper side of these fabrications and the casual playfulness.
- Type 2/3 add in some textures by focusing on the cable knits, collars (aka Dickies!), and dynamic pattern houndstooth.
- Type 2/4 you will be drawn to the structured lines in this trend; remember to keep the fabrications comfortable rather than stiff
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Relaxed, Soft
2. Girlcore
Girlcore—what’s that?! Get ready to tap into your feminine energy with this trend! This one is all about those girly, romantic finishing touches: ruffles, sequins, satin, organza, big bows, lace, and 3D florals. It may feel like a nostalgic nod to childhood, wearing your Sunday Best, or dressing up for holidays. While we typically see more of a pastel palette to capture this mood, you can bring it into your look with any color of your Type. Go romantically bold with this one.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Girly and romantic?! Yes! This trend definitely captures Type 2 energy. If you’ve been wanting to try the popular puff sleeve this is your chance! As Type 2s we are all about details and this trend is featuring them in a big way. Go a little bit out of your comfort zone with this one and invite some more girly romance into your look with the ruffles, lace and florals!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Have fun with this one, getting more animated with the details. You will love it!
- Type 2/3 You can go bigger with this one. See how far you can go. If it starts to feel silly then go less animated and larger scale with the accents.
- Type 2/4 You prefer a simpler style, so choose your feminine frills carefully, but don’t count them out completely. Choose a piece with a touch of ruffle, a bow on the back, and evenly placed. You don’t want the frills to become fussy.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Detailed, Flirty
3. Wide-Leg Cropped Pants
In Fall Style School, we talked about the Wide-Leg Denim. This trend is the warm-weather version of it! These pants that hit your ankle or rest just above it. We’re noticing how this loose, wide-leg silhouette effortlessly complements ANY figure, so try it. You can go casual with cargos (which are still going strong this season) or take a more relaxed, flowing style. This trend can be applied to denim, any color of linen, or a more professional look.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Yes! This relaxed and flowing style is spot on. You can play with a wide range of fabrics, from medium-structured to very flowing and loose styles. Enjoy playing with colors and patterns as well!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 You will love the cropped option, which brings the movement up. Loose and flowing can equal light so that will feel really comfortable on you.
- Type 2/3 Relaxed pants can sometimes start to look and feel like pajama bottoms, which, if worn all day, might drag your energy down. Choose the right fabrication to feel soft and comfortable and keep your energy going.
- Type 2/4 A wide-leg silhouette will be very flattering for your Type 4 secondary movement, which loves that touch of structure and boldness.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Flowing, Relaxed
4. Bold Floral Patterns & Prints (especially roses!)
Florals are showing up strong this season! They are perfect for spring because they immediately evoke optimism and joy. We’re seeing large-scale flowers in vivid hues against contrasting backgrounds. Floral embellishments and embroidery are becoming popular in bringing that garden vibe into your wardrobe. Go ahead and mix botanical elements, abstract shapes, and artistic interpretations of flowers into your patterns. Tropical motifs, garden landscapes, and vintage floral patterns also fall under this floral trend.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
You know I love my floral prints! Roses are a Type 2 flower and look gorgeous in patterns on Type 2 women! This trend, however, is all about bold, high-contrast patterns and big floral embellishments, which leans Type 4. To make it work, find patterns with a medium-low contrast in color combinations and, of course, stay within your Type 2 tones.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Choose patterns that are medium-smaller scale, but you can play with a higher contrast comfortably. Have fun finding items with embellishments and embroidery, which will kick up the animation.
- Type 2/3 You’ll love the more vibrant colors that are coming out with this trend. Try some abstract shapes, tropical motifs, or garden landscapes to add dynamic texture.
- Type 2/4 Go bigger with your floral prints with this trend by trying large-scale patterns. You can also maintain a higher contrast.

5. The Colors Green & White
Green: Red was the featured color in Fall Style School. This time, we’re going to the opposite side of the color wheel! Green symbolizes renewal, growth, vitality, and sustainability. While this trend includes all shades of green, you’ll want to refresh your greens true to your Type. This video series is a great place to start learning your Type’s greens. And as always, refer to your Style Guides!
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Every Type has its unique color of green. Ours is Type 2 sea foam! Other good color names for Type 2 green would be sage, muted mint, or dusty olive. Green can be worn as a neutral; try pairing it with an array of colors: purple, pink, gray, brown, and even blue!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Enjoy the broad spectrum of Type 2 greens. You can go darker or lighter. Bring it into your eye makeup for a little more playful pop!
- Type 2/3 One of the classic neutrals for Type 3 is olive green, so you may already be drawn to this color. Just be sure to choose the dusty version.
- Type 2/4 Try a monochromatic green outfit this season.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Dusty, Muted
White: This is a classic color with timeless appeal. It imbues the air of purity, simplicity, and sophistication. We’re seeing white show up specifically in dresses. Whether it’s a flowing maxi dress or a tailored pencil skirt, white garments offer a blank canvas for styling, allowing endless possibilities. This video is a great place to start learning your Type’s white. And as always, refer to your Style Guides!
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Just like green every Type has its unique color of white. Ours is Type 2 eggshell or soft white. Oh, and it’s so pretty! Here’s a tip: when shopping online, realize that soft white can read pure white in pictures, so pay attention to the color name the manufacturer has given that item. “Sea Salt,” “Wish Bone,” and of course, “Soft White” will be good indicators that the color is going to be the perfect Type 2 white.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Fresh and bright you’ll love adding more white to your wardrobe. Keep the contrast medium-low when choosing other colors to pair your whites with.
- Type 2/3 White could get a little boring for you so choose items with added texture and interest and pair it with some pattern in an outfit.
- Type 2/4 Simple and clean – an easy yes for you! You can enjoy a monochromatic all-white look.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Soft, Subdued
6. Shoes – Flats Are Back
The shoe trend for spring 2024 prioritizes sophistication and comfort—incredible, right? Flats (especially ballet flats), mules, and even the small kitten heel are making a comeback. With a nod toward the “girlcore” trend mentioned above, embrace the embellishments of bows and ribbons on your shoes for an extra feminine touch.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
I’ve never been comfortable in a heel higher than 2 inches, so the fact that there will be more offerings in flats has me excited! Add to that a few feminine details and I think we have another Type 2 trend we’re looking at!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Ballet flats are right up your alley! Have fun incorporating some playful details into your footwear.
- Type 2/3 Mules would be your first choice, with their easy slip-on, slip-off design, and classic pointed toe, which adds in angles. Just be sure to choose a softened point.
- Type 2/4 The kitten heel is a great choice for you, adding a classy feminine touch.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Comfort, Detailed
7. Layered & Colorful Jewelry
This spring, we’re seeing a bunch of fun trends in jewelry. Colorful jewelry is in! You’ll notice pops of pastels and vibrant tones, which reflect the season’s vibrant and joyful mood. Layered necklaces are back, allowing you to personalize and bring variety to your style! Choose one necklace with multiple strands or pair several of your favorites together, worn at different lengths.
Another big one is pearls—which will go great with the preppy aesthetic we talked about. They offer that timeless yet sophisticated touch to outfits. We’re seeing a more modern twist on pearls added to hoops and worn in all sizes. And after nearly a decade of gold jewelry taking center stage, silver jewelry is gaining in popularity. Type 2’s and Type 4’s will love this trend! (Is it a coincidence this is happening in 2024?!)
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Silver!! Finally. I’ve been waiting over a decade for silver to come back. I never stopped wearing it, of course. But so many accents on handbags, watches, and sunglasses have always been gold because that is what has been in style. Now, we’ll start to see more silver offerings. Hooray! Let this be a lesson that just because something is in style for the vast majority doesn’t mean it will work for you. How wonderful to know what does work because of Dressing Your Truth.
As for the other trends, pearls are a beautiful choice for Type 2s. Layered necklaces are great as they bring in detail and charm. And Type 2 colored jewelry adds beautiful interest.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Everything works for you! Have fun playing with the variety.
- Type 2/3 Layered necklaces will add texture to your look – try more strands than you’ve done before! Choose pearls that have interested added to the piece rather than just a plain pearl.
- Type 2/4 Pearls are the perfect choice for you. You will also enjoy adding a touch of color to your jewelry. Choose simple layered necklaces (think fewer strands) and won’t get tangled and fussy.
