This is the ideal time of year to add new Type 1 trends to your style! After all, trends embody the energy of spring; they’re refreshing, vibrant, and full of new life.
So, what exactly are we seeing in the fashion world this spring? Lots of styles with preppy and feminine influences.
Clean lines, bold florals, the color white, and pearls are this season’s trends. They lead with Type 4 energy and nod to Type 1 and Type 2 with colorful, fun, and feminine flare.
I’m Jaleah, your Type 1 Expert. I’m so excited to show you how to make these popular trends totally Type 1!
A quick note: trends naturally lean toward a specific Type or a secondary Type—but every Type can make them work!
That’s what we’ll be doing here. I’ll teach you about each trend, then tell you what to do to make it Type 1, along with some considerations for each secondary Type! And, of course, I’ll show you photos of every trend. (Bonus—you can click on the image to shop!)
After reading this post, you’ll be able to create trendy spring and summer outfits true to you.
Think of this as guidance, and then you get to go and be the expression!
Remember—it’s all about developing a style that’s true to you, not just copying a cookie-cutter style to look like everyone else. Wear the trend for you, not for the sake of the trend!
So let’s go over the new trends and discuss how to make them work for our Type 1 nature.
1. Preppy
This season, we’re seeing a lighter, more casual approach to the Tailored Look from Fall 2023 Style School. The best way to capture this is with that classic “prep school” look: polo shirts, cable-knit sweaters, chino pants, crisp collars, dickes collars, pleated skirts, sweater vests, blazers, cardigans, and striped button-downs. For patterns, you can add gingham, houndstooth, and argyle. Think of preppy style as a school-inspired aesthetic with “play it cool” details. You’ll look put-together, but playful too!
Does this trend favor Type 1 and how to make it work?
This trend may feel a little stiff, but with the right tweaks, we can totally love it! Obviously, using our Type 1 colors will lighten the look a lot. Go for lighter colors on top and darker colors on bottom. Mint sweater vest, navy pleated skirt. More movement will also help, like pleats in the skirts, more color combinations, and details like pearls, diamonds, etc. Think of the TV show Gossip Girl—they have this trend on lock!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 1/2 – Add more details, like pearls on the collars. Use less color variations. Try softer, paler colors.
- Type 1/3 – More textured fabrics, like the thick weaves on the sweaters. More dynamic collars. Multiple color combinations
- Type 1/4 – Keep to just one or 2 colors. More sleek fabrications.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Crisp, Animated
2. Girlcore
Girlcore—what’s that?! Get ready to tap into your feminine energy with this trend! This one is all about those girly, romantic finishing touches: ruffles, sequins, satin, organza, big bows, lace, and 3D florals. It may feel like a nostalgic nod to childhood, wearing your Sunday Best, or dressing up for holidays. While we typically see more of a pastel palette to capture this mood, you can bring it into your look with any color of your Type. Go romantically bold with this one.
Does this trend favor Type 1 and how to make it work?
Oh yea! I bet most of us were all about bows, frills, and ruffles before we got self-conscious enough to worry about them being too “girlie.” Now that they’re a trend, we can take our healed selves right back there and enjoy this style!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 1/2 – Oh boy, you are going to love this trend! Lean into it! Wear those puffy sleeves!
- Type 1/3 – Focus on the “big” big bows, big collars, big color.
- Type 1/4 – You can go bold! Maybe choose one to two of the style features. Bows and ruffles. Or sequence and satin.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend?
Cute, Flirty
3. Wide-Leg Cropped Pants
In Fall Style School, we talked about the Wide-Leg Denim. This trend is the warm-weather version of it! These are pants that hit your ankle or rest just above it. We’re noticing how this loose, wide-leg silhouette effortlessly complements ANY figure, so definitely give it a try. You can go casual with cargos (which are still going strong this season) or take a more relaxed, flowing style. This trend can be applied to denim, any color of linen, or a more professional look.

4. Bold Floral Patterns & Prints (especially roses!)
Florals are showing up strong this season! They are perfect for spring because they immediately give a sense of optimism and joy. We’re seeing large-scale flowers in vivid hues against contrasting backgrounds. Floral embellishments and embroidery are becoming a popular way to bring that garden vibe into your wardrobe. Go ahead and mix botanical elements, abstract shapes, and artistic interpretations of flowers into your patterns. Tropical motifs, garden landscapes, and vintage floral patterns also fall under this floral trend.

The shoe trend for spring 2024 prioritizes sophistication and comfort—incredible, right? Flats (especially ballet flats), mules, and even the small kitten heel are making a comeback. With a nod toward the “girlcore” trend mentioned above, embrace the embellishments of bows and ribbons on your shoes for an extra feminine touch.

7. Layered & Colorful Jewelry
This spring, we’re seeing a bunch of fun trends when it comes to jewelry. Colorful jewelry is in! You’ll notice pops of pastels and vibrant tones, which reflect the season’s vibrant and joyful mood. Layered necklaces are back, allowing you to personalize and bring variety to your style! Choose one necklace with multiple strands or pair several of your favorites together, worn at different lengths.
Another big one is pearls—which will go great with the preppy aesthetic we talked about. They offer that timeless yet sophisticated touch to outfits. We’re seeing a more modern twist on pearls added to hoops and worn in all sizes. And after nearly a decade of gold jewelry taking center stage, silver jewelry is gaining in popularity. Type 2’s and Type 4’s will love this trend! (Is it a coincidence this is happening in 2024?!)
