Stunning Stripes – How to Wear Stripes for Your Type 4 Secondary Combo

Can a striking woman like you ever have too many stripes? We say no way!

Stripes—a staple in the fashion world. Straight lines that tell a story of direction, movement, and personal expression.

With Dressing Your Truth, you know that every pattern, color, and texture holds a unique energy. Stripes are no different.

Stripes can be intimidating. We’ve heard a lot of myths about them over the years—like which direction looks better, should you wear only vertical or horizontal, thin or bold lines. Let’s set aside any stories you may have heard in the past, and discover a new world where stripes become a fun part of your style story, as they tell the world exactly who you are!

Do stripes work for Type 4?

More than yes! Stripes are a classic Type 4 design line. And here’s the best part: while there certainly are stripes that will work for every Type 4, let’s take it a step further and personalize your stripes even more by bringing in your secondary energy! When you know your unique dominant/secondary combo (and as a result, your yin-yang combo), your style will express your true nature even more.

First, let’s go over your Type 4 energy:

Type 4 Energy is bold, structured, clean, and defined. Type 4 stripes will have high contrast between colors, medium to large scale, defined lines, and balanced spacing to achieve this quality. Typically, with no more than 3 colors in the pattern.

Adding the movement of your secondary energy Type will allow you to expand the variety of stripes you can enjoy.

So let’s take a look at how to choose a striped garment true to you. For ease of comparison, I’ll be showing visual examples with shoppable links to striped sweaters for each Type 3 with your secondary.  What you learn can be applied to similar stripes in any garment, not just sweaters.

Type 4/1

Type 4/1 stripes have more space and air between the lines creating a lightness and buoyant quality. Ranging from small to medium-sized stripes. Mixing colors and widths will add animation. Keep the contrast of colors to medium to high and of course, stay within your Type 4 hues.

Keywords: Structured, Light

Type 4/2

Type 4/2 stripes are slightly softened and relaxed. This is achieved by lowering the contrast between colors, and or keeping the scale and size range medium to small. Think blue with green stripes, and pinstripes. The combo is one of the lowest on the movement scale. The more even and organized the stripes, with fewer colors, the lower the movement.

Keywords: Still, Soft

Type 4/3

Type 4/3 stripes will be bold with more substance and activity. Ranging from medium to thick stripes, or a mixture of varying widths create a dynamic quality. Stripes going in different directions add layers and depth. Can combine colors with high contrast.

Keywords: Bold, Dynamic

You can always count on stripes to be your perfect, go-to pattern.

There are so many ways you can express your bold, stunning nature through stripes. You can own it all and show the world that you’re in charge of your style. I’d love to see how you style your stripes. Post a selfie in the Lifestyle Facebook Group!
