Soft Stripes – How to Wear Stripes for Your Type 2 Secondary Combo

Anne's curated gallery of Type 2 stripes, picked just for you and your secondary.

Stripes—a staple in the fashion world. Straight lines that tell a story of direction, movement, and personal expression.

With Dressing Your Truth, you know that every pattern, color, and texture holds a unique energy. Stripes are no different.

Stripes can be intimidating. We’ve heard a lot of myths about them over the years—like which direction looks better, should you wear only vertical or horizontal, thin or bold lines. Let’s set aside any stories you may have heard in the past, and discover a new world where stripes become a fun part of your style story, as they tell the world exactly who you are!

Do stripes work for Type 2?

Yes! Here’s the thing: while there certainly are stripes that will work for every Type 2, let’s take it a step further and personalize your stripes even more by bringing in your secondary energy! When you know your unique dominant/secondary combo (and as a result, your yin-yang combo), your style will express your true nature even more.

First, let’s go over your Type 2 energy:

Type 2 Energy is soft and subtle, blended and muted so Type 2 stripes should have a low contrast between colors to achieve that blended quality. Also, the width of the stripes should be medium-thin to thin keeping the movement soft.

Adding the movement of your secondary energy Type will allow you to expand the variety of stripes you can enjoy.

So let’s take a look at how to choose a striped garment true to you. For ease of comparison, I’ll be showing visual examples with shoppable links to striped clothing for each Type 2 with your secondary. What you learn can be applied to similar stripes in any garment!

Type 2/1

Type 2/1 stripes have more space and air between the lines, creating a lightness and buoyant quality. They range from thin to medium-sized and can include a mix of colors. Mixing colors and widths will add animation. Keep the contrast of colors to medium to low and, of course, stay within your Type 2 tones.

Keywords: Delicate, Light

Type 2/3

Type 2/3 stripes have more substance and activity. They range from thin to thick stripes, or a mixture of varying widths, creating a dynamic quality. Stripes going in different directions add layers and depth. You can do a combination of colors in stripes with medium contrast in color combinations.

Keywords: Flowing, Active

Type 2/4

Type 2/4 stripes are more organized and clear. Ranging from medium to thick stripes creating a bold quality. Combining fewer colors (2-3) will keep the overall pattern clean and clear. Stay within the Type 2 tones to avoid too much contrast.

Keywords: Organized, Clean

Stripes can be that fine, soft detail your outfits need!

Now that you know about all the different kinds of stripes, you can fine-tune them to make them work even more for you. I’d love to see how you style your stripes. Post a selfie in the Lifestyle Facebook Group!
